Eye Examination
You may ask, if I can see alright, why do I need to go to the Opticians for regular Eye Tests? You may think that you are very healthy and there is nothing wrong with you. You many then feel no need to keep seeing the optometrist (ophthalmic optician) on a regular basis.
The fact is that with age we become more prone to many eye conditions like cataract and glaucoma. As these conditions don’t have any symptoms to give us warning, the only way to detect them and receive the appropriate treatment is to visit the optician.
Here at Zafash Optics our qualified opticians carry out a full set of tests with the most up to date technology available to check the health of the eyes. All conditions mentioned below can be detected during an eye examination at Zafash Optics. Our tests follow discussion with you for your visual needs considering your lifestyle so you leave with exactly what is best for you, for example glasses or contact lenses.
High Blood Pressure & Cholesterol
The eyes are the only part of the body where you can look at the blood vessels directly and for this we us an instrument called ophthalmoscope to look through your pupil at the inside of your eyes and if any signs of High Blood Pressure or similar disorder is detected, we can refer you to your doctor.
Diabetes
If you are diabetic, it is important to monitor the progress of your diabetic condition and it is for this reason that it is most important to visit the optician regularly for the eye examination.
Glaucoma
Half of the people who have it don’t even know it’s there. As many as 2 in 100 people over the age of 40 can be detected Glaucoma by measuring the pressure in your eyes and checking the field of vision. Cataract Screening
A cataract is a clouding of the lens in the eye that affects vision. Most cataracts are related to aging. Cataracts are very common in older people. A cataract can occur in either or both eyes. It cannot spread from one eye to the other. To detect a cataract, our optician will examines the lens. A comprehensive eye examination usually includes Visual acuity test, Pupil dilation and Tonometry.
Colour Vision Test
Zafash opticians have a number of ways of assessing colour vision. Our eyecare professionals have years of experience in assessing colour vision for the RAF and we are approved optometrists to carry out CAA eye examinations.
We regularly screen for colour vision defects during a routine eye examination, particularly when examining children. Detecting colour vision defects is important because it can have a great impact throughout life from studying at school to choice of career.
Visual Field Screening
In visual field screening each eye is tested separately, and it takes 15-45 minutes to complete the test for both eyes.
A visual field test measures how much 'side' vision you have. It is a straightforward test, painless, and does not involve eye drops. Essentially lights are flashed on, and you have to press a button whenever you see the light. Your head is kept still. You have to rest your chin on a chin rest. The lights are bright or dim at different stages of the test. Some of the flashes are purely to check you are concentrating.
